Nolichucky Outdoor Learning Institute (NOLI) is Tennessee’s only comprehensive center for learning the “outdoors way,” and provides a variety of courses to prepare you for real, wild adventures.

Real, Wild Learning

With a vision for celebrating the outdoors and helping others do the same, Scott Fisher’s Nolichucky Outdoor Learning Center is another reason why Unicoi County is like nowhere else. Serving students from ages 7 to 70, Scott’s team of instructors will share their knowledge of how to best live in the great outdoors. From navigating a mountain trek with just a compass and map, to wilderness survival and whitewater canoeing, grow confidence as an outdoor mountain man, woman, or child at NOLI.

From an 8-hour course on basic outdoor survival skills, to two days in the wilderness, you will ignite your survivalist confidence and hone your skills away from the ordinary stresses of life.

From the basics to advanced coursework and outdoor cooking skills, you can learn along the Appalachian Trail with top instructors. Courses are available for those 8+.

From flat water to advanced instructor-level courses, learn along one of the world’s top whitewater rivers. With 17 courses within the curriculum, discover which is right for you.

From basic skills of safety on flat water for everyone from youngsters to adults, all the way to instructor certification courses on water rescue, NOLI offers 9 courses to choose from.

From minimizing human environmental impact to enjoying natural beauty, NOLI offers 2 courses within the curriculum that teach you the elements of the Leave No TraceTM national program.

From novice to expert, choose from one of 9 one-on-one or small group courses to grow your skill. Course duration ranges from 2 hours to up to 3 days of course work.
