From leisurely nature strolls to high-intensity day hikes, Erwin has miles of trails for all outdoor lovers, including the Appalachian Trail.

Day Trip Suggestions:

Start your day with a breakfast sandwich and a cup of Joe at Steel Rails Coffe e House. While you’re there, grab a sandwich to go to fuel your day. Another great spot is Bellflower Bakery, offering fresh bagels and scones.
Plan the perfect hike or family walk:
- Appalachian Trail, jump on the AT at Chestoa Bridge.
- Perhaps one of the most picturesque points of the entire Appalachian Trail is Unaka Mountain Beauty Spot, a hidden gem of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
- Erwin Linear Trail, a 4-mile paved trail for the whole family to enjoy.
- Cool off on one of the many waterfall hikes in the area.
- Lamar Alexander Rocky Fork State Park is a beautiful recreation area just 10 miles from downtown Erwin with hiking trails for all abilities.
- At 10 miles, Pinnacle Mountain Fire Tower is a longer hike, but the views are well worth the effort!
- Rock Creek Park Recreation Area, from here you can hike the Rattlesnake Ridge Trail for beautiful views of the Unaka Mountain wilderness area.
- Martins Creek Falls, take left trail fork for the views and the right fork to the falls.
- Lost Cove, take a 10-mile hike from Erwin to the ghost town of Lost Cove, once a thriving mountain settlement from the 1860s to 1950s
